Who is Vidknight?
Vidknight is my Tvsona/Alias/Avatar/Mascot of this site. The sona is basically just me, lets get that out of the way first everything that is true about me also applies to this guy right here I always wanted someone to represent me that isn't me, and after years trying to create someone like this I finally created it with the character you see on screen right now. Despite how simple his design is there was a lot of things that went into creating Vidknight so this is what this page is about sharing almost everything that went into this TV head guy. Now before everything else I should mention that this isn't my first TV head OC I had 3 prior to Vidknight. All of which ranges from bad to pretty good. So lets take a look at all my previous TV head characters to see what I was cooking up starting with...!
good lord we are not starting off on a good foot here... Alright so before all the other TVsonas I had there was this guy with the suit, and tie. I don't like the design for a variety of reasons one of the biggest being this ain't me, what I mean by that is that IRL I would never dress this formally except for rare occasions, but even than I would have a button up shirt at best. The TV head is way too large, just comparing my current character to this one, and you will just see that the head size is just ridiculous (How in gods name, does he even fit through doors?). No colors because I thought all black was "cool", and lastly no face in case the design wasn't already bland enough. So all this to say my first TVsona design was pretty crap to say the least. I think that at the time I wanted my TVsona to be some sort of business man, and while at the time it seems like an ok idea judging by the fact I haven't used him in a while showcase that this character didn't last long. But luckily we are moving on to my second TVsona which is better.
Right off the bat the head is still massive as hell, not really sure why my first attempts at creating a TV head character resulted in giant heads. I guess I wanted to really showcase the TV part. I do remember what my idea was for this one I wanted to create a college student. There's nothing else that makes him interesting except for the fact that he's a college student. So personality wise there ain't much too say, but design wise he does has some more good point than the last one. Granted it was just a citizen model with a tv head and scarf, but there is more good I can say. For example the clothing is more casual, while not exactly my style is a bit more casual, and the colors are also pretty good. This is where we see a scarf start coming into play which at this point became a standard for my TVsonas. The only reason the scarf is here in the first place is because it was used to hide some clipping issues with the model, but hey this lead to something that became a part of my identity, so it is what it is. Despite the good things I have to say it ultimately didn't stick around mostly because while it's not bad, it is nothing special as well. I liked it at the time, but now it's alright, but nothing special. We're now on the last TVsona design before the current one.
This here is Vidknight! The original version of Vidknight. Originally I had him as an actual knight I had a Roblox avatar that inspired not only my alias, but my Tvsona. This is my favorite of the previous three as not only does the color scheme just works, but also wielding a sword is just cool. But after 6 months of this guy being my sona, I pretty much abandoned him, why? Because I felt that while his design is great he just so out of place, and didn't really fit in any worlds I had. (Going into OCs territory here) The tv on his head, and the clothing was too modern for the world where Iris, and Ragnor reside in, but the world where my other characters reside is also didn't really fit since he is meant to be a knight, and seeing somebody who wields a sword casually in modern times just didn't sit right with me so ultimately he kind of just fell off overtime for me.
Now after going through all of my previous TVsonas. We now get to my current, and favorite one there's a lot to say about the design here, and my inspiration for different things. One of the biggest being with the eyes in case you don't know I'm a pretty big Bomberman fan I love the games, and Bomberman. There's a lot I like about Bomberman, but one of my favorite thing about his design is his eyes it so simple just being to lines yet som expressive, and showcase a lot of personality. Of course I took that part of his design, and added it to my TVsona. Of course the whole lines for eyes thing didn't start with this guy in fact it started all the way back with the first TVsona I had. I just didn't really explain it except for now, but better late than never.
Another thing I love about his design is the color scheme I'm a pretty big fan of the whole green/blue color scheme that I don't really see utilized too much on other characters except for a few like Luigi. As such I decided to go with green/blue for the main colors of my TVsona in fact the colors was so inspirational that I also had the vast majority of my site color scheme be green/blue now is it too much? Maybe, but hey I like it so I'm keeping it.
The clothing is pretty casual which honestly works for me you have the hoodie that almost every artist persona has (It's either a hoodie, or a t-shirt), the shoes are also nothing really special I just found it cool. I explained the scarf already early, but something I didn't really explain yet that has some level of meaning is the bucket hat. When I first created the design I felt that something was missing from it. everything is here, but it felt that there was nothing really special except for the TV head thing.
That was until I looked at myself, I have a bucket hat that my uncle gave me about a year ago. The hat is stupid, goofy, and I love it, it's so funny that I end up wearing it a good amount of time except for when I need some other headwear, for example a beanie during the winter. But for any other time and occasion I would end up wearing it. So I decided "Hey lets try adding the bucket hat to this guy, and see how it works." And despite being just one piece of clothing it changed so much in my eyes. so much so that seeing him without the bucket hat is like seeing him naked.
Ultimately though what made this guy so special to me is that I decided to just model it after myself. The previous TVsonas was me trying to create a whole new person. Whether it was trying to create a business man, a college student, or a knight none of these sat all too well with me. That was until I thought "Why not just create myself?" which I did, and it lead to something that I actually care about more than it just being something that kind of relates to me sort of.
